I can’t believe it’s been almost a year since my last blog post. And a year since this site was created as the new permanent home for my work. What a year it has been. My daughter Libby became a ward of the state and has for the past year been undergoing intensive treatment for schizophrenia. As a result, the books about our journey, Loving Libby, were put on hold. I realized not only was our journey still ongoing, but that I had a lot more to say about it. 2019 was a year full of reshuffling of priorities, and building a plan to move forward. It was not easy but by the beginning of 2020 we had moved to San Antonio, my husband and I both gained employment which nearly doubled our income, and I returned to school to obtain my bachelor’s degree in fiction writing.
Sometimes life just forces you to re-evaluate your priorities. I was forced to put my writing on hold to deal with all the changes. But 2020 is seeing me return to writing, in fact my next two fiction writing courses will have me working on How to Adopt a Dragon to get it ready for publication. I continue to keep a blog about Libby and have plans to rework the Loving Libby series. It will still be four books but it will be half journal, half resources for each book.
Depending on how it goes, I may be ready to publish one of the works in 2020 or 2021. My full-time job, school plus the kids takes up a lot of my time so it’s sometimes hard to fit writing in but I’m trying! School will hopefully be finished by the end of 2020. I never knew it would take me more than 20 years to get a degree. Life has diverted me from that goal countless times but I’m stubborn, so I keep coming back. I also hope to publish more short fiction in 2020, if I can find a home for my work.
Hope your 2020 is off to a great start!
